MATHEMATICS // Year 1 students had a fantastic tim

MATHEMATICS // Year 1 students had a fantastic time in maths exploring measurement by using rulers to measure and compare lengths in centimetres. Through hands-on practice, they learned how to use standard units and enhance their accuracy and understanding of length. It was wonderful to see their excitement and teamwork as they worked together and then shared their findings!

BELGENNY FARM EXCURSION (2) // Our first session w

BELGENNY FARM EXCURSION (2) // Our first session was the introduction of the cows, what they are and how they behave. Then watching the farmers use a machine to milk the cow and listen to them how things have changed. Our first group activity was learning about how you use milk to make cheese and butter then the process of heating the milk and cooling it down which is called pasteurisation. Our second activity was to pat a calf, and we got to milk Daisy the cow which felt weird. Then we had the milk tasting session where we got to taste full cream milk, skim milk, oat milk and rice milk. We then discussed how they taste different and the fact that rice and oat milk are plant products. Our last group activity was going to the smokehouse where we got to milk a pretend cow. Then we got 10 minutes of free time to explore all the old things that were on display. After this we did a science experiment to find out which is a full cream milk and a skim milk by using a washing detergent and a food colouring. (Year 4 Student)

BELGENNY FARM EXCURSION // When we arrived at Belgenny farm we saw two massive fields, we all sat down on silver seats near the trees in front of an old building. They brought in a cow called
Shamrock. The farmer put the cow on a metal platform, and they milked it with an electronic milking machine. The first session was where we learnt how to make cheese and butter. We used the milk from Shamrock and poured it into a machine. The machine separated the cream from the milk. We put some vinegar into the milk container and stirred it. It turned into a weird, slushed thing that would soon be turned into cheese. At the second session, we patted a cute calf. It was really soft. Then we sat down on the grass and waited for our turn to milk the cow. The cow we milked was called Daisy. Then we had our lunch at 12 o’clock. There were two chickens on the grassy area where we ate. We played for a bit then we went to the third session where we tasted some different types of milk – full cream milk, low cream milk, oat milk and rice milk. Then we went to the last session where we milked a fake cow. (Year 4 Student)

PRIMARY ASSEMBLY // Congratulations to the student’s who received class awards at the recent assembly. We also heard some great Captain & Leader speeches from our Year 5 students. Joining the leadership team is a wonderful opportunity for primary school students to develop essential skills and contribute positively to their school community. Through participation, students gain experience in teamwork, communication, and decision-making, while fostering a sense of responsibility and pride in their roles.

Mr Chow took on all staff members and despite giving them all very healthy head start points, Mr Chow still remains undefeated. MATHEMATICS // In Kindergarten, the students recen

MATHEMATICS // In Kindergarten, the students recently took part in a fun, hands-on activity about data collection! Each child asked their classmates about their favourite type of donut and recorded the results in a table. They then surveyed Year 1 students and compared the two results. This activity helped them practice social skills by interacting with one another, as well as early math skills like counting and sorting. The children were thrilled to see the range of favourites. In the end, they got to see which donut flavour was the most popular in their class and were excited to share their findings! Iced donuts were the clear favourite! Yum!

YEAR 9 ECOSYSTEM STUDY // In Year 9 Science, students conducted an ecosystem study in the school field, where they observed and analysed various biotic and abiotic factors. Through hands on exploration, they gathered data on plant and animal interactions (e.g insects), soil composition, and environmental conditions, enhancing their understanding of ecological relationships.

GRANDPARENTS DAY CHALLENGE // The annual Grandpare

GRANDPARENTS DAY CHALLENGE // The annual Grandparents v snr primary class Times Table Challenge was held on Grandparents Day last week. The students in Mr Russell’s class faced off against the legendary Grandparents who had nothing to prove. The TTC is a timed worksheet consisting of 100 addition and multiplication questions, and has been a regular event on Fridays in Mr Russell’s class. Each year we challenge any keen grandparents to join in. This year we had about 15 ‘experienced’ participants up against 31 keen beans… and in the end it was the students that came through! The record was not beaten for about 15 years! It remains at 1:35

WORLD TEACHER’S DAY // Last Friday, schools all

WORLD TEACHER’S DAY // Last Friday, schools all over the state celebrated over 170,000 NSW teachers for World Teacher’s Day. From Ashfield to Armidale and Dubbo to Dulwich Hill, an incredible 9,822 messages were submitted to the “NSW Teaching Gems” map, each one illustrating the importance of early childhood educators and primary and secondary teachers in communities across NSW. These are the moving World Teachers’ Day messages to some inspirational teachers!

SCHOOL READINESS // The Countdown to Kindergarten

SCHOOL READINESS // The Countdown to Kindergarten 2025 has begun. A very enthusiastic group of new students arrived on Tuesday 15th of October. After touring the school and checking out all the facilities we settled down to complete some craft to further develop our fine motor skills in preparation for writing!
Crunch and Sip time allows us to not only learn about our fruit and vegetables, but to develop friendships with Kindy and Year 1 students.
They are working through the Pre-Lit program and have been devouring the texts that we have been reading, these include AARG Spider, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Dear Zoo.
Each week they are adding a new sound to their repertoire. Their cutting skills and drawing skills are being developed further whilst we also have fun with balloon races and airplane flights.
Library is in the afternoon after lunch and play equipment time, where we get to change our books and read another story.
Friendships are being developed and a tight knit group are emerging ready to take on the challenges of Kindy 2025!
